It is written that “A woman of valour is her husband’s crown” (Mishlei 12:4). Rav Shimshon Dovid Pincus zt'l explains that this means that a man attains honour though his wife.

The wife is the crown, i.e. she is greater and more important, and her place is higher – just as a crown is on top of the head.

The area where this is most noticeable is in our dress. If we dress modestly, in honor of Hashem and in honor of our husband, then we, as a crown will truly shine. If not, then what kind of honor does a dirty crown give the the wearer? Not only, is it less honorable, but in fact, it's a disgrace for someone of important to wear a crown which is not meticulous.
